⬇️ The short version: Rutube Video Downloader collects no data at all. It builds the video (or its audio track) you asked for from Rutube’s own stream, entirely on your device, and saves it to your Downloads folder — no accounts, no analytics, no trackers, no servers of ours.

1. Who we are

Rutube Video Downloader ("the extension") is a browser extension for Google Chrome that lets you download the Rutube video you are watching — as an MP4 file in the quality you choose, or as an audio-only M4A file — on rutube.ru. This policy explains what information the extension does — and, more importantly, does not — handle.

2. What data we collect

None. The extension does not collect, transmit, store remotely, sell or share any personal information or browsing data. Specifically, we do not collect:

The videos or audio files you download — they are built from Rutube’s own stream on your computer and saved through Chrome’s download manager; the developer never sees them
Your Rutube account details, credentials, cookies or session — the extension reads the stream data of the page you are on using your existing Rutube session, and that data never leaves your browser
Your browsing history or the addresses of pages you visit
Personal details such as your name, email address or identifiers
Usage analytics, telemetry or crash reports

The extension has no server. There is nowhere for your data to be sent.

3. What is stored on your device

The extension stores only your own settings:

Your preferences — the chosen format (video or audio), preferred quality, file-naming options and the "ask where to save" switch. These are kept in Chrome’s extension storage (chrome.storage.sync). If you have Chrome sync enabled, Chrome itself syncs them across your devices as part of your Google profile — the developer never sees them.

Downloads are produced entirely on your device: the extension downloads the video stream from Rutube and assembles/remuxes it locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded anywhere, and the temporary data is discarded as soon as the file is saved. Uninstalling the extension removes its settings.

4. Why the extension requests its permissions

Permission	Why it is needed
`Access to Rutube websites` (host permissions)	Required to read the player data on the Rutube page you are on and to fetch the HLS playlists and video segments from Rutube’s own media servers (rutube.ru, rtbcdn.ru and similar). The extension runs only on Rutube sites — it reads nothing anywhere else.
`downloads`	Saves the finished video or audio file through Chrome’s normal download manager, with a sanitized file name.
`storage`	Saves your preferences described in section 3.
`scripting`	Injects the extension’s content script into a Rutube tab that was already open when you installed the extension, so you don’t have to reload the page.
`activeTab`	Lets the popup see the address of the tab you are on when you open it, so it knows which Rutube video page it is looking at. The address is used at that moment only and never recorded.
`offscreen`	Runs the local assembly and remuxing: an offscreen page downloads the HLS segments and builds the MP4/M4A file, then hands it to the download manager, entirely on your device.

5. Third-party services

The extension uses no third-party services, analytics providers, advertising networks or remote APIs. All of its code is bundled inside the extension and runs entirely on your device. The only network requests it makes are to Rutube’s own websites and media servers, on your behalf, to fetch the video you asked to save.

6. Your responsibility when downloading

Please only download videos you have the right to save — your own content, content with the author’s permission, or content in the public domain — and respect Rutube’s terms of service and the copyright law of your jurisdiction. The extension is a tool; what you download with it is your responsibility.

7. Children’s privacy

Because the extension collects no data from anyone, it collects no data from children.

8. Changes to this policy

If a future version of the extension ever changes how data is handled, this policy will be updated and the "Effective" date above revised before that version is released. Material changes will be noted in the extension’s store listing changelog.
